Psalm 13:1–2

How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever?
How long will you hide your face from me?

How long must I take counsel in my soul
and have sorrow in my heart all the day?
How long shall my enemy be exalted over me?

Psalm 22: 1–2

My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
Why are you so far from saving me, from the words of my groaning?
O my God, I cry by day, but you do not answer,
and by night, but I find no rest.

Psalm 42:9–11

I say to God, my rock:
    “Why have you forgotten me?
Why do I go mourning
because of the oppression of the enemy?”
10 As with a deadly wound in my bones,
    my adversaries taunt me,
while they say to me all the day long,
    “Where is your God?”

11 Why are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you in turmoil within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,
    my salvation and my God.

Psalm 44:23–26

Awake! Why are you sleeping, O Lord?
Rouse yourself! Do not reject us forever!
24 Why do you hide your face?
Why do you forget our affliction and oppression?
25 For our soul is bowed down to the dust;
our belly clings to the ground.
26 Rise up; come to our help!
Redeem us for the sake of your steadfast love!

Ever prayed a prayer like the psalmists above? Asking God why He seems to have forgotten you? Is there a situation in your life you are waiting on God to answer? Maybe you even question your faith?

When I was pregnant with my third child, my husband and I were in the throes of planting a new church. Things were difficult, and I felt abandoned by God. He seemed silent and distant as I cried out to Him for help. I lamented, “Have you forgotten us? Here we are, planting YOUR church!”

At the time I was also asking God for names for our newest son who would be born soon, and the name Zachary came to mind. As we discussed it as a family, we agreed that Zachary would be the name.

My heart still cried out to God, asking why He had forgotten us. Why was He so silent when we asked for help? When I looked up the meaning of the name, Zachary, this is what it said: “God has remembered you.”

Continue to call out to Him and don’t give up.
